WHAT IS THE SF100 Opportunity Contest?

 

The SF100 Opportunity Contest is looking for opportunities in Life in Future Cities. Develop an opportunity idea that identifies a difficult and pressing problem of the life in the future cities.

A problem is an opportunity! The bigger problem the bigger opportunity!

 

TIMELINE

 

Opportunity Contest opens on March 5th 2018.

Deadline for submissions is April 15th, 2018.

The participants will be informed of the results by June 4th, 2018.

The SF100 CHALLENGE GRAND AWARDS CEREMONY will be held in August 2018 at Aalto University Campus in Finland where the recipients of the prizes will get their awards. The recipients of the awards who are not participating to the SF100 Summer Camp (July 30 to Aug 10, 2018) will have their awards delivered to them separately.

 

WHAT WE ARE LOOKING FOR?

 

We have two evaluation criteria: Attractiveness of the opportunity and the Impact potential.

1. Attractive opportunity

We are looking for teams that tackle real problems and opportunities of the Life in Future Cities. Problems are relevant to be solved and you tell the reason why it is relevant.

Possible script for the video (part 1):

  1. There is a problem in cities with  ……. because ……. and ……
  2. The opportunity is in solving the problem by …… and …….
  3. This is an important issue because ……

2. Big impact after the problem is solved

•       We want to see opportunities with great impact after the problem is solved. This is a big opportunity. Please, consider both the local and global impact.

Possible script for the video (part 2):

  1. When the problem is solved the …….. and …….. will have much better …….
  2. The solution will also benefit the …….. by giving them ………..
  3. This opportunity exists in all cities that are ........ and have.......

You are welcome and encouraged to develop your own scripts!

We are especially looking for teams that can bring together different areas of life like; city life, fashion culture, education, transportation, music culture, urban planning, aging, healthcare, art culture, social media, food culture, mobile technology, economy, clean air, performance culture, social life, tourism, international connections and many more.

 

WHO CAN PARTICIPATE

 

SF100 Idea Competition is open for every team with connection to a university. You must put together a team of at least 3 people to participate. The maximum size of the team is 10 people.

Members of the team can be from China, Korea, Japan, Finland, European Union or any country and can be from universities, public organizations, companies or be private individuals. However, there must be a connection to some university.

PRIZES

 

The organizers have decided to award 100 Prizes to the best teams for their ambitious work.

THE THREE GRAND PRIZES

1. Gold Prize: The Wisdom Award by Radical Design Week

The prize will connect the team with relevant actors in the SF100 Challenge Innovation Ecosystem to further develop the opportunity of the team.

A free participation (no need to pay the 800 € fee) for the team (max. ten persons) to the Summer Camp on July 31st to August 11th, 2018 plus a scholarship to the team (to be shared by the team members participating to the Summer Camp). The scholarship amount will be announced later. This will be paid to the team once its members have started to work in the Summer Camp. The team will pay their travelling expenses, accommodation, insurances and other expenses.

2.  Silver Prize: The New Way of Doing Award

The price will connect the team with relevant actors in the SF100 Challenge Innovation Ecosystem to further develop the opportunity of the team.

A free participation (no need to pay the 800 € fee) for the team (max. ten persons) to the Summer Camp on July 31st to August 11th, 2018 plus a scholarship to the team (to be shared by the team members participating to the Summer Camp). The scholarship amount will be announced later. It will be paid to the team once its members have started to work in the Summer Camp. The team will pay their travelling expenses, accommodation, insurances and other expenses.

3. Bronze Prize: The Innovation Award

The prize will connect the team with relevant actors in the SF100 Challenge Innovation Ecosystem to further develop the opportunity of the team.

A free participation (no need to pay the 800 € fee) for the team (max. ten persons) to the Summer Camp on July 31st to August 11th, 2018 plus a scholarship to the team (to be shared by the team members participating to the Summer Camp). The scholarship amount will be announced later. The team will pay their travelling expenses, accommodation, insurances and other expenses.

THE SPECIAL INNOVATION ECOSYSTEM AWARDS

4-10. The Special SF100 Innovation Ecosystem Awards

A participation for the team (max. ten persons) to the Summer Camp with a reduced 500 euro fee. The participating teams will pay their travelling expenses, accommodation, insurances and other expenses.

The price includes assistance by the organizers to connect the team with relevant actors in the SF100 Challenge Innovation Ecosystem to further develop the opportunity of the team.

THE SPECIAL IMPACT AWARDS

11-20. The Life in Future Cities SF100 Opportunity Contest Special Awards for Teams with Great Potential Impact.

A participation for the team (max. ten persons) to the Summer Camp with a reduced 600 euro fee. The participating teams will pay their travelling expenses, accommodation, insurances and other expenses.

The price includes assistance by the organisers to connect the team with relevant actors in the SF100 Challenge Innovation Ecosystem to further develop the opportunity of the team.

THE SPECIAL SF100 ACTIVITY AWARDS

21-100. SF100 Special Challenge Activity Awards for Innovative Teams.

A participation for the team (max. ten persons) to the Summer Camp with a reduced 700 euro fee. The participating teams will pay their travelling expenses, accommodation, insurances and other expenses.

HOW ARE THE WINNERS DECIDED?

1. All SF100 Opportunity Contest ideas which are submitted before the deadline will be evaluated.

2. The 20 best Opportunity proposals will be sent for voting to the SF100 Challenge Jury. Based on this voting the recipients of the three Grand Prizes, Special Innovation Ecosystem Awards and the Special Awards for Great Potential Impact will be chosen. All other Opportunity proposals will be ranked into two groups: 21 to 100, 100 and over.

3. All participants will be informed of the results and there will be a certificate of participation for all.
